Radclyffe Hall was a British writer known for her groundbreaking work of lesbian literature. Her own gender identity and experiences in love informed her work. She wrote ‘The Well of Loneliness’ in 1928, about a young woman coming to terms with her lesbian identity; which was controversial at the time and rarely written about. It resulted in Hall going to trial for obscenity.
