Margaret Laurence was a Canadian short story writer and novelist. She was one of the foundational figures in women's literature in the country. She co-founded the Writers' trust of Canada, a non-profit literary organization that seeks to encourage the Canadian writing community. Her work has centred strong women characters finding identity and purpose in a male-dominated world.
