South African writer and essayist Nadine Gordimer wrote pieces set in the emerging resistance movement against apartheid. She centred stories of individuals in her narratives. Many of her books were banned by the apartheid regime. Burger’s Daughter, published in 1979, is the story of a young woman revolutionary in South Africa.
