Ceremony, Leslie Marmon Silko. Penguin, Comtemporary American Fiction, 1977.

Vintage softcover. Some light shelfwear. No markings inside. Very good condition.

Leslie Marmon Silko is an Indigenous novelist and poet. She is a Laguna Pueblo Indian woman, and has said that her writing has attempted to “identify what it is to be a half-breed or mixed-blood person”. (Penguin Random House). She published Ceremony in 1977, and has called her book “a ceremony for staying sane”, as she personally battled depression while writing the book. Ceremony address themes such as matriarchal culture, traditional healing, Indigenous identity, and storytelling. Ceremony is considered to be a touchstone publication for what is known as the Native American Renaissance in the 1960s/70s.
