Angela Carter was an English novelist, short story writer, poet, and journalist known for her feminist, magical realism. Fireworks, published in 1974, is a short story collection largely influenced by Carter's experiences living in Japan in the late sixties. She has stated it was in Japan was where she learned “what it is to be a woman and became radicalised”. Her work henceforth tended to centralize themes of feminism.
