Sharon Pollock was a Canadian playwright, actor, and director. She began to write plays in 1971 while pregnant with her sixth child, and went on to win numerous awards for her writing, including a Governor General Award for Drama for Doc. She wrote Doc in 1984, about a conflict between father and daughter revisiting their past. Pollock’s writing has been called “intelligent, provocative, and innovative…she continually experimented with structure, explored controversial issues, and cared passionately about Canadian theatre.” (Canadian Theatre, 2021).
