Hilda Doolittle, who wrote under the pen name H.D., was a French Avant-Garde poet who also wrote memoirs, novels, and essays. Her work carried mythological overtones, and she considered herself a pagan-mystic. She also helped to define free verse and was an early user of the stream-of-consciousness technique.
Her autobiographical novel HERmione was written in 1927 but was not published until 1981, said to be due to her lack of confidence in her writing.
