Octavia Butler was an American science fiction writer, and one of the first few Black women in the field. She worked to reshape traditional fantasy and sci-fi by writing about gender, race, power, oppression, and passive resistance. Butler is considered a visionary and pioneer in the development of Afrofuturism.
