U. A. Fanthorpe was a British poet. She began writing poetry in her 40s after working as a receptionist at a psychiatric hospital. "Using wordplay and dark wit, Fanthorpe often slyly questioned convention". She published nine volumes of poetry in her lifetime (The Poetry Foundation).
