American-Canadian sci-fi writer Judith Merril was also a political activist and editor. She was an active member of Toronto’s writing community, having founded the Hydra North network of science fiction writers in Toronto. She participated in the Canadian peace movement and the Writer’s Union from the mid-1970s until her death in 1997.
